Pick two or three careers. We’ll show salary, growth rate, and cumulative lifetime earnings side-by-side, using BLS occupational data — plus the U.S. cities where each career pays best relative to local costs.
Lifetime earnings
Cumulative gross earnings over the selected period, with annual salary growth compounded.
Where each career pays well
Cities in Repit’s database with high local income levels — approximating where this career
likely pays above the national median.
How we calculate this
Median salary: Published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics, most recent year).
Employment growth: BLS Employment Projections, 2023–2033 percent change in the number of jobs (openings) — not a wage-growth rate. It is shown for context only and does not feed the lifetime-earnings projection below.
Lifetime earnings: Sum of salaries over N years with compound growth, using the single annual salary-growth rate you set (applied to every career). Does not account for bonuses, overtime, equity, or individual factors.
Where each pays well: Proxied by the ratio of local median household income to national median — a correlate of occupational wages by metro. BLS OES metro-level wage data is planned for a later integration.
